As much as I like the styling on the Honda Civic's, it seems like I just like the handling a bit more on the corolla, and it has a 1 mpg gain in highway driving with a slightly longer trunk. Other then that though they are very close cars. I would recommend trying the hyundai elantra/accent they are getting good as well.
